A scent that lasts twelve minutes and lingers.
Oedo-Koh Cherry Blossom is an incense created by the masters of Nippon Kodo, a house whose tradition dates back to 1575, when Takai Jūemon, known as Koju, composed incense for the Imperial Court. Five centuries later, the same workshop in Tokyo still works by hand, using natural ingredients and according to a principle that is easy to say but difficult to maintain: nothing superfluous.

It opens softly and florally, without a cloying sweetness. Sakura in this Japanese composition is not a perfume. It is a clean, bright, slightly powdery note, closer to petals than syrup.
After a moment, a calm, woody backdrop emerges, grounding the composition. The smoke is thin and straightforward, a single vertical trail, almost motionless.
Oedo-Koh is a series built around a single idea. Between 1600 and 1800, Edo, today’s Tokyo, developed its own aesthetic, which the Japanese called iki: elegance without adornment, refinement visible in the details. A single flower in a narrow vase instead of a bouquet. Simple attire that conceals quality. The incense in this series is exactly that: a small gesture that transforms a room. Cherry blossom bears the Japanese name 桜の花衣, Sakura no Hanagoromo, meaning “a robe of flowers.” Hanagoromo is a kimono worn for hanami, a spring outing beneath blooming trees. This custom developed during the Edo period, and the somei-yoshino cherry variety, known worldwide today, was cultivated in the village of Somei on the outskirts of the city at that time.
